A Poem by Lizzie Mitchell

It was as though he had awakened from hibernation
As spring forced itself out of the ground
So did his soul seem to burst from its vessel
On a face where apathy once took hold
A smile began to unfold
A fluidity of uninhibited movement
Ignited by freedom
Coursed through each extremity
And every footfall exuded confidence
Life was good
God was blessing him every day
He would say
And nothing could take it away
