Words

A Poem by Lizzie Mitchell
"

I never feel satisfied with my writing.

"
Words
I hate words.
Words make my heart sink,
Fill me with joy,
Bury me in longing and regret.
Words.
I hate words.
They are weapons of mass destruction,
Agents of deception,
Catalysts of corruption
I can't hurt words,
But they can hurt me.
I can't touch words,
But they can touch me.
I can't anger words,
But they can anger me.
I can't comfort words,
but they can comfort me.
...words...
Dear AnyoneWhoUnderstands,

I wish I was a good writer but I'm not. I wish I could touch someone with my words and make them feel what I'm feeling but I can't. Sometimes I wish I knew the right words to say, but they never come to me when I need them. I dont know how to express my feelings in words, and when I try, no one can interpret them. If I could flip a switch in my brain that let my feelings spill out of my mouth in the form of words I'd use it daily. Sometimes I have good ideas. In fact, I often have good ideas. If I had the right words to express them maybe people would listen. I can't make a beautiful picture or do a meaningful dance or act out a tragic play or sing a powerful song to make people feel. I can't create something out of nothing. All I have is my words. But, even those I fail to form.

Yours Truly,
Speechless Frustration

You have no idea how much I understand this. I have lived my whole life in the shadow of people's lives because they do not care because they do not understand me or what I am trying to say. Some advice for you, your mind and who you are can be expressed in ways other than words. Who you are is the words you never say, just the things you feel. No one can completely understand, but if you can find someone who does, you have found something beautiful. Perhaps I can better express myself in a return poem:

People believe that
Sound
Is the only true
Source
Of communication

Whether it be
Movement
Or so be it
Mouth
None show emotion

The place where true
Emotion
Can be readily
Found
Is in absence of words

All the purest
Thoughts
That are my
Alliances
They are all found
Between Silences

I understand completely.. I'm failing to use my words right now too. But then some feelings just can't be explained. Sometimes words can't suffice. Plus I'm horrible with words they don't help me unless they're in poetry. I like it.

agents of deception
catalysts of corruption

those two lines make the whole poem i think
absolutely genius, i love that as a writer you are lashing back at the words, because they define a part of you. love this!
