A RevelationA Poem by #Gatsby's BouncerThis was a poem performed in front of my AP English Composition class. This is not an easy thing to do, As most of you will know. It’s somewhat of a daunting task, I’d say undoubtedly so. The writing part is simple; It just takes some time and thought. Ideas here are transferred there, For so long we have been taught. But how to speak in front of crowds Without falling to the ground Is something we must learn ourselves As adulthood comes around. Bravery is a miraculous trait. Some possess it by the ton. . . I envy those who do And have long wondered how it’s done. Jack Sparrow is my hero, And Bilbo Baggins, too. MLK, Anne Hathaway, As well as all of you. Lucy Ball could make me laugh Until I’m shedding tears. She once said, “I’m brave, not funny,” So I've looked up to her for years. These people all seem fearless, Like they have been their whole lives. But when I think that they were once like me, It gives me confidence; here’s why: I think that being brave Is not as tough as it may seem. It’s not a certain kind of person From whom confidence could gleam. Just smile when you’re petrified. Don’t stop the fight to beat it, Because bravery is a battle, and fear is but a word; You’ll see in time you can defeat it. Associate with people Who will help you on your journey. ‘cuz we could all use help along the way, As I have been learning. Good posture can work miracles. I promise you it’s true. Look tall and you will feel it, Then you will be brave, too. So now that I have finished, Up here will stand a new face. I say to you, “Have confidence,” Because you all have what it takes. © 2013 #Gatsby's BouncerAuthor's Note
