The Birth of Hope

The Birth of Hope

A Poem by Sarah Jean
"

Never lose sight of the hope you have been given.

"
In the womb of mother time,
a promise and a curse grow intertwined,
'till her head falls back and her legs do spread,
a reminder of the earthly skin she must shed,
her falling hair mixes with demons and dirt,
and her fingernails are filled with the sins of the earth,
with quivering defeat her legs whimper 'no',
but she finishes the work that father fate bestows,
and when her feeble legs do buckle and give way,
stumbling out on fresh legs comes another day,
and as this gift stumbles towards fresh light,
its faceless mother recedes back into the night.

What an incredible write. Visceral and powerful. A write from the core! So often we write about hope as airy but this digs in. It's earthy and weighty.

This is stunning work; the diction, the flow, even the choice in layout is striking in a way I can't describe.

i like the shape of this on the page, and the shape of the theme...brings me back to Eve...

life makes us feel dirty, used and abused sometimes...and there are those sins...but always the chance for a fresh light...

this is like redemption...i like the metaphor of being in the womb of mother time...

pregnant clocks of nature....

you are a talented writer!
