A Chapter by Lizardo
"

The pavement of Absolution

"

We came crashing through the portal, in a moment I saw a lot of colors but the next I was crashing in some kind of pavement.

“God damn it!” Yelled Dominick

“Why can’t we ever go to a nice place? I’m feeling tired of all the sand in my pants”

I got up, my arm against my chest because I hurt it while I came from the portal.

There were miles and miles of pavement and sand, some spots were made of pavement and some were full of sand. I could touch the dust of the sand with my two hands, the clouds were dark and the scenery of this place wasn’t good or bad…

It was just a little creepy, but I could feel sadness in this place…

In reality, this place looked like a storm of sorrow sweep everything up and left the place that would make anyone cry.

“Where in the world are?” I asked looking at my surroundings.

The last time I saw a place so full of sadness like this was when I saw the asteroid hit earth… Wait, hit earth? An asteroid? I’m really starting to remember but yet I can’t recall what I’m seeing…  I just have to be slow and let my memory flow through my brain, maybe something of it will help us up ahead. As a matter of fact, this place was worse than that, because here… you could taste sorrow on your tongue… sadness on your heart and dreams broken, it’s a place where you would feel numb but feel sad because you’re numb.

“This place makes me want to cry” Said Dominick in a soft voice, and as a matter of fact, I could see his eyes watery, but he was trying hard not to cry.

“More importantly, where is everyone?” he asked looking at me.

I didn’t notice that Samantha, Lenox and Daisy were missing. But how could this be?

We all enter the portal, at least that’s what I saw unless this was one of Lizardo’s tricks. Every time I think about him makes me wonder, he’s not obvious, I can’t even imagine where he could strike next it looks like he’s off course… like playing mind games with us. For now, I couldn’t let my mind wonder on him, I needed to concentrate and think of what to do next, probably the most obvious thing to do: Find our friends.

“There’s something wrong about this place, I mean, how could a place make you feel sad with every heartbeat…” I said in soft voice.

I didn’t want to believe that our friends left us here because that wouldn’t make sense, we all enter the portal but I and Dominick came crashing through it…

Maybe that has to do with something? No maybe not.

I couldn’t stand a while longer watching how depression s knocks on my heart and my arm was really starting to hurt. I looked at my arm and saw that it was full of blood running through it, how could I not notice that? Maybe this place really mess ups your brain.

“Let’s get moving; I don’t want any skeleton surprises this time” I said.

Dominick nodded and we started to walk in the long pavement with sand that was all around us, the clouds seem to darken more.

We walked miles and miles of pavement and sand, now we had a visit from another friend, his name is the thunderbolt, always following us. I hate those damn things always trying to fry me up, freaking energy things.

I was dying, I was literally dying, we didn’t have water or food, my tongue was really dry and I felt even sadder than before for reasons unknown, by the far side of my left was Dominick, he looked really mess up too.

Thunderbolts started to rumble in the sky and the clouds begun to disappear to show us something even more depressing, not sunlight, but a grey sky.

I had to cover my mouth and part of my nose with the piece of clothe that Lenox gave me at the dessert. The wind was strong, it lifted up the sand. Sometimes I had to balance myself because the sand on the ground would make me slip; even Dominick fell like five times.

“Out of all of Mother Nature’s wonders, we have to fight sand, freaking sand!” Yelled Dominick coughing.

“Can’t agree more” I answered.

The sky was grey, but the sound of the thunderbolts never ceased. At the horizon, we saw a light, a glimmering, shiny light.

“What is that?” Dominick asked me.

“I don’t know, but whatever that is, it’s better than here!” I said.

We double our pace, and then we started to run to the light.  The lightning bolts started to show up in the grey sky with their rumbling sounds echoing through the pavement and sand.

After minutes of running, we reached a hill made of pavement.

“What do you think is up their?” I asked Dominick

“I don’t know brother, but let’s not waste time and go find out”

We ran to the top of the hill, again, me and Dominick fell because of the sand.

We reached the top of the hill and saw what lay towards us.

City buildings made of glass stood in the horizon. The pavement reaching through the city with sand flying all over it.

“Well, would you look at that, more surprises, how lucky we are” said Dominick in annoyance.

The wind blew through my shirt and jeans, while Dominick’s did the same thing.

“Let’s go find out what’s there, maybe we could find food” I said

“Or maybe we could find something worse than the skeletons” said Dominick

We slowly move down hill and made our way to the ground, well at least Dominick, I came crashing through the pavement again and hurt more my arm.

“Here let me put something on that arm of yours” said Dominick

He grabbed a piece of blue clothe from his pants and wrapped it around my elbow and arm.

“Does it feel better?” He asked in a soft voice

“A little” I said

This time we walked to the city, we didn’t know what to expect from the place, it seemed so out of place… a city made of glass? How could hold on that long with the thunderbolts rising through the sky and rumbling through the pavement with all their might.

In the far right side I could three people moving towards us, I quickly move into a fighting position and Dominick grabbed a gun from his pocket, he move it up and pointed to the three people that were coming.

“You had the damn thing along and never used it?” I asked in annoyance.

“I didn’t remember that I had the gun on my pocket until now that I touched it.”

“You deserved to be smack in the head” I said playfully

“Maybe I do” he said smiling.

The three people were closing in from the other side of the hill. Then I noticed something odd, there were four hills, one on each part from the cardinal points.

One on the north, one south (the one behind us), One on the east and one on the west.

“Did you notice that when we came here?” I asked Dominick

“No, this is strange, those hill suddenly appear out of nowhere”

Now I could see who the three people were.  Or maybe two, one was being carried by the other on his arms.

It was Lenox carrying Samantha and Daisy running by his side.
