Why was the Milky Way, Named the Milky way?

As I have been thought

Our ancestors gave our galaxy the name

''Milky way''

Because when they saw the milky way at night

They said that it looked like a river of milk

I felt like writting it, although I study a lot of astrophysics and Astronomy, I've always wondered why the peculiar name?
