Different or Similar?

Different or Similar?

A Story by lizandivy

I just wish we would all stop focusing on how we are so different from "other people" and focus on how we are the same. Recreate that unity that once existed in a time we didn't know. Yes we are all different in so many ways, but we are also all similar in just as many ways. Every strange feeling or thought you've ever had has been experienced by other people too. No one is alone as we thought we were. But if we never speak of it, how will we know?

It's not that we are all the same. We're not. I can't stand when people say that. Not everyone was born with a good heart. Some of us were born a******s, and some of us were raised into a******s, and some of us will never be an a*****e. And it's not like we all want the same thing. Not at all. Some of us want love, some want a meaningful life, some want revenge, some want justice, some want fame, some want to make a difference. I mean f**k that, we're all different. And then there's our f*****g births, our astrologies, the environment we were raised in, our family life, our neighborhood, our schools, our friends, our heroes, our whole f*****g personalities. Like jesus god, if anyone says "we are all the same" again, I'm going to f*****g slap them.

What if instead of categorizing ourselves by labels, we categorized ourselves by dreams?

"Oh hey, I'm a True Love Searcher."

"Oh yeah, I'm a Make Life Counter."

And here is where we figure out that we are similar. When you look into the lives of the True Love Searchers and see that they all dream the same scene every night.

We're not alone when we realize that every other person you talk to on the internet has cut herself, had a bad first time, hates her parents, wants to leave their life, despises society, has major social issues, suffers from anxiety, doesn't care about school, struggles to live…

And really, do the labels we always focus on really help that much? Are you going to get in a group with a bunch of white teenagers just like yourself and is that going to help you feel better? Are you going to find a support group for blue-eyed brunettes? Why can't we label ourselves by our passions? By the one thing that's helping us work through this struggle we call life? We say that nothing else even matters besides that one thing, but then why do we label everything else?

I think that most people feel they are the same as everyone else, but a certain personality type is characterized by feeling different from everyone, being an outsider. I like those people and they tend do tend to be writers and artists.
