more than this (closer)

more than this (closer)

A Poem by Livvy Moore
"

alt pov of i'd give you everything (i'm sorry)

"

we’ve never been friends

never been lovers

too much bitter between us

too much we can’t let go

(broken promises

stupid mistakes)

yet somehow we ended up here

it never should have happened

but here we are tonight

(not friends, not lovers)

soaked in sweat

tangled together, here

i listen to your heartbeat

and feel the way you breathe

for once in my life

i feel complete

you put your hands on my hips

and brand me with your touch

you drown me in your kiss

and cover me with your skin

(get closer, closer)

i bathe in your scent

and drink you in

on fire here with you

but i know we can never be

more than this

tomorrow i’ll leave

gone before the sunrise

disappearing with the shadows

away from you, away from this

(running again, always running)

tomorrow you’ll wake

all alone in this room

sticky with sweat

sleepy with pleasure

another wound in your heart

(asking yourself why,

why do you bother with me?)

a vicious cycle,

repeated again and again

a twisted dance

tugging on heartstrings

like a marionette

scarring hearts

we know how this ends

but we keep coming back

pulling closer and closer

drawn together by red string

(we can never be

more than this)

i can’t say a word

my mouth is sewn shut

i can never tell you

what you mean to me

(even as you whisper in my ear,

“i love you”

the softest and sweetest words)

i know i’ll break your heart

and baby, i’m sorry

(i wish i could tell you

i only feel like myself

when we’re together

i only feel complete

when you’re with me

i love you, i’ve loved you forever)

but instead of speaking

i bite my tongue

and pull you closer

closer

spinning us back into this twisted dance

and you follow my lead

because you know we can never be

more than this

if only i were a stronger man

strong enough to stop coming back

but i’ve never been able to resist

this hold you have on me

(if i were a braver man,

i would tell you,

“i love you”)

no matter how much it hurts

you know i’ll be back

dancing, spinning

bound tight by the red string of fate

we can never be

more than this

broken

bitter

betrayed

I like this description of one of those complicated relationships. I really like the part comparing "If I were a stronger man/If I were a braver man." This poem feels very honest.
