a quick piece on the main character of my novel

she says, “I’m fine”

even as her heart lays shattered at her feet

and her homeland burns

 

she says, “I am alive and that is enough”

even as she throws her life away

chasing ghosts that will never return

 

she says, “I want to live”

even as she slits her wrists

on the broken pieces of her heart
