Evil

Evil

A Poem by Jeff Brown

There is no more love and I have no more life for
there's no life above and you've not learned to live in a world

without false salvation,the one that's
free of blessed damnation, without
your Child, born to answer our questions

of life,
of love,
of man's descent
to death,

from life,
your life,
the one that's real,
the one where you can't assert a purpose,
where the only truth is the one you feel,

where fairy tales don't come between us,
where life ends in death,

because mortal minds can't be maintained forever,
and where the hereafter
isn't after
after all;
it's only here,

projected by ephemeral minds as
the crying voice of the blind
who fear solely to open their eyes

to truth,
to absolute knowledge:
the truth
of death
is that we rightly hold fear, for

when you accept
that we
can only know nothing
you'll know

that you
are all
you'll ever know and that

one day
you'll nothing at all
and that's
enough reason to be afraid.

Jeff Brown
I wanted you to think, and if you did, I didn't fail. I wanted more for you to feel something, and if you did, then I've succeeded.
