Safety

Safety

A Poem by Jeff Brown

You taught me the truest lesson about hope,

the cure for which is a single, lengthy rope.

Simply coil around one end of the line,

tie the knot, and pull, then done.  How fine

is the simplicity?  I think that anyone can

do it, if can I, this miserable, broken man.

So suspend my hope six feet from the floor,

and I promise you that it will hurt no more.

Author's Note

Jeff Brown
It's about stirring emotion and though, though firstly emotion. If you've not felt from this reading, I've failed, and if you've not thought as result then I've not succeeded.

Oh how I take pleasure in reading a beautifully dark poem. Keep up the great work!

MMm I like this. "Suspend my hope six feet from the floor" my favorite line in a while for sure. I've always said our greatest flaw, and conversely our greatest strength is often our inability to stop hoping. Also, I like that this says two things: one, hope is a disease which we can cure by giving up and dying, and also that death is a sign that we've given up hope.

an unmistakable success, in my opinion. it might seem random but this reminds me of Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. Although, i enjoyed yours a hundred times more than that. awesome poem!
