Melt

Melt

A Poem by Jeff Brown

Burn us down and melt away,
the southern heat will come with day
and uncover all the dirt
of my old ways.

The darkest hearts collide beneath
the fall and flow of frozen sheets,
but I will still feel darker in the sun.

In the morning you'll be gone, so
leave no harm or hurt undone.
Hold nothing back; I'll only break with dawn.

I've made my bed with sheets of fear.
You'll leave me alone in it dear,
I know.
'The blood and grass you cling to still
will hold me firm and keep me here
after you're gone.

You'll leave me when the morning comes,
so leave nothing, take all you want.
Just leave no harm or hurt undone
and when I wake I won't lie numb.
