Sea Glass

Sea Glass

A Poem by livicote
"

I wrote this after breaking up with my boyfriend last year. I feel like I always act too sweet in order to reach some social expectation, but then I end up hurting people when they find out who I am..

"
the only beneficial relationship you've had is with your keyboard.
everyone else turns out to be
completely insane
and the opposite of everything you thought-
well, told yourself they were.
I'm just a chocolate covered
shard of glass-
Lovers of sweetness chase me
and end up getting hurt,
but maybe if I shook off the chocolate,
I'd attract those few who love a pretty piece of glass.
That's what I am from now on-
no hiding my sharp edges.
I want to be free from the guilt
of causing chocolate lovers pain.
I think if I just got lost in something bigger than me, alone for a while-
like poetry and art, or the ocean-
my chocolate and sharp edges would wash away
until I was a smooth, bright piece of seaglass
for someone to find on the beach.
The only problem is
I can't jump into my ocean
of poetry and art
because who will deal with college
and bills
and cars
and insurance
and neighbors...
God, I hate neighbors.
I'm doomed to be a shard of glass
cutting tongues
and wishing for the sea.

'Chocolate lovers pain'...whoa! Love it...this is a special rant, with tons of savvy class thrown in. I only hope it's dark chocolate, cause then it'd be perfect!

I'm down with the dark chocolate lovers pain. ;-)
My pleasure for sure...
Glass as the object. Young glass can be sharp. It may have been broken in anger, neglect, or as the object of art. A good choice to carry the load of your life lesson. Chocolate. I wish you would not use chocolate as bait. My tongue is bleeding...I never stop to think when chocolate is on the line.

You are born to write poetry I think...or did you have a near death experience and were born again to this life? :-)
