Clare's breath was hot on my neck. She was smiling, I could tell. Her teeth were pressed against my skin, as if feeling the blood's warmth inside my veins. My heart banged heavily inside my chest and Clare smiled at my fear. "Don't worry," she whispered. "It'll all be over soon."

"Clare," I stuttered. "What about Jamie?"

"What about Jamie?" she hissed, trying for my sympathy. "I hated her when I was human. Now, I hate her even more as a VAMPYRE."

A silent scream echoed through the forest. The trees whispered noiselessly in the wind, and the midnight sky began to lighten, as the sunrise began.

"Vampires can't come out in the sunlight," I told her.

"You're right," Clare grinned dementedly. "VAMPIRES can't. VAMPYRES can." She paused to lick her lips, satisfyed.

Up in the tree, the silver haired Vampyre grinned. "Finish her off quick, Clary."

Clare looked up impatiently. "I'm savoring."

"Savoring what?" the Vampyre shot at her. "She's a frigging HUMAN. She aint gonna taste good."

I gasped. "What? You drink your own kind?!"

Before either could answer, I felt Clare bite into my neck. My blood was drawn from my veins, as if being sucked out by a bloody straw. I didn't scream, but a shudder went through me. Tremors went through my body, and fear illumanated my expression. My heart leapt as I felt faint. I felt sleepy...all I wanted was to go to sleep...

I felt Clare being flaung off of me by a strong force. My body was yanked forward, and I fell into an uncomfortable pile of leaves. I was weak, my shoulders relaxing. I felt like just sleeping.

Suddenly, I felt Jamie desperately shaking me, crying. I tried desperately to wake, but nothing seemed to work. Blood leaked from my neck in a scarlet river, staining by blue t-shirt red. Jamie had blood on her as well. Clare was on the ground,gasping. Who stood over her?
