A Beating Heart

A Beating Heart

A Chapter by allonsy_doctor

Human: Ceira

"Ceira!" called Jamie, who had never spoken to me before in my entire life. "Please come help me with this box. It's too heavy!" the box fell a few inches. "Oof!"

"Coming!" I cried and took the box in my arms as well.

We were leaving the woods. Obviously. Mr. Doghse saw the immeadiate danger and ordered everyone to pack up instantly. I felt bad for Jamie, for her best friend was Clare. The newborn Vampyre. Only Edward and I had exchanged a few words since the Vampyre's awakening. The rest of the biology class had been dead silent; althought that is a terrible medaphor, considering the circumstances.

While lifting the box I felt strangely axeriated, my heart beating quickly in my chest. My heart was beating. Beating. Thump. Thump. Thump. I felt strangely alive, thankful. I was a human being. I wasn't a monster. I didn't feed on blood. I felt bad after something happened.

Josh obviously didn't.

It was him and that silver haired Vampyre girl now. They were together. Like Edward and I...

What? What was I saying? Edward and I weren't together! Out of suprise out of my own thoughts, I dropped the box a few centimeters, cracking Jamie's back.

"So sorry!" I exclaimed, then realized that Jamie was crying.

"It must be terrible for you," she sobbed. "To loose a boyfriend if it's this bad to loose a friend."

I put the dropped box down and hugged Jamie on the shoulder. "I know it's hard." I told her. "Believe me. I'm sorry about Clare. She's with Josh now. She'll be safe." Ihugged her more. "I promise you that, Jamie. I promise you that."

"Don't promise people things," Edward growled on our way out. "It's not good for the ex-girlfriend of a Vampyre."

I rounded on him, dumbfounded. "Ex?!"

Edward shot me a demented grin. "You know what I mean," he said, refusing to give up his evil smile.

"I love you, too." I muttered irritably.

"I'm glad you do," he laughed, my patience slipping. "Because you need a new boyfriend after your old one dropped dead," he chuckled ar his little joke. "Literally."

I glared at him. "You supposed Josh Parahn needs one too?" I shot back.

Edward bit his lip hard and chewed mindlessly. He sighed, leaning back, his hands in the V, clasped behind his head. "He's already got one."

I looked at him quizzically. "Who would that be, Mr. Knowitall?"

"That silver haired Vampyre. Whatshername?"

"You don't know her name," I growled, tired of his little game. "And Josh would never abandon me like that."

"Like you abandoned him?" Edward retorted nastily, stopping in his tracks. He was clearly as irritated as I was, but the reason why refused to show itself.

I whirled on him. "What?!"

Edward bit his lip again. "Maybe I do belong in the lovey-dovey world of Twilight after all, then, if the only girl I ever wanted and loved doesn't even want to try to love me."

He was gone before I could reply.

That night, I knew where I was going. The woods again. If I was eaten by Josh's new "girlfriend", the sliver haired Vampyre, the pain would end. I wouldn't have to suffer anymore. Neither would Edward, or Josh himself.

I escaped into the leafy green trees, feeling strangely at home. I was ready to sit down and wait for the inevitable when I heard a vein-freezing noise. Movement in the trees. Twigs snapping. I tensed, moving slowly, looking around cautiously. I hoped, I PRAYED, it would be over soon. The silver haired Vampyre girl that favored Josh would eat me and suck out my blood and Josh would witnessed. And I bet my afterlife he'd be happy. He must have given up on me now. He must throw little blood-crusted darts at my picture in his little cave, or cemetery, or wherever he lived. They lived.

"Come on out!" I screamed. "Come out and suck me, already! End our pain!"

There was a crinkle of leaves and more snapping of twigs. For what I read on them, Vampyres were usually cautious about hunting; even more cautious than humans. They didn't wander through the forest this clumsily! Maybe it was a newborn, or a newly awakened Vampyre, on his first hunt.

It could be Clare.

Suddenly, I saw someone emerge from the shadowy incasings of the mossy forest. My heart slammed agaisnt my chest as I desperately tried to identify the stranger. It turned out not be a stranger, or a Vampyre at all. My horror of my sudden death faded.

Infront of me, just as she herself reconized me, was Jamie.

She was heavily breathing and half into hystaria. Scared as well, I could tell. Her lashes fluttered like delicate strips of black butterfly wings. Tears had and still were melting from her sapphire blue eyes, like the ocean leaking from it's containment. Without a word, she fell mutely hugged me, sobbing into my arms. I copied her silence and hugged her back, bewilered. I could not hide my horror and confusion. Why was she out here in the middle of the night when dangerous creatures beyond any of our imaginations lerked? Did she hear and understand every word I said? I tensed, my heart still beating wildly like a tiny drum in my chest.

"Clare," she coughed, edging into hystaria. "I was," another sob of the many she'd already exibited shuddered through her. "Looking for," her words broke, but she had already said enough. She had been out here, risking her life, to look hystaricly for his best friend Clare. The newborn Vampyre that ran away from her human form's final resting place this morning.

Suddenly, I felt an inextinguishable flame of anger and fury towards the Vampyres and their smug, black grins that contained their killer, sharp sucking teeth light in me. Did they have any ides what they did to people like Jamie and I? I wanted to kill everyone of them with my bare hands; encluding Josh himself. He was probably just as ruthless as the others now.

I patted her head soothingly. "I miss her too," I said. After a moment of silence, I lied, "I miss my boyfriend Josh Parahn too."

"I don't know how," she choked. "we can still go on with our lives without them. I mean, they're still alive, and I can't bare not being with her and she's still...here."

I looked in her eyes sadly. "We can't," I told her. "You can't. I can't. Anyone else related to the snatched, now newborn Vampyre can't either."

"Then, how can we live?"

I shook my head mutely.

Then, I heard a noise. I saw movement, quick movement. The breath caught in my throat, and I softly pushed Jamie away. Something inhuman was in the trees. It moved with Vampyre speed. Vampyres. Josh. The silver haired Vampyre; Josh's "girlfriend".

Suddenly, I realized I didn't really want to die anymore. I wanted to stay, so I could comfort Jamie. I took some concern in my own words, listening to them, replaying them inside my head. I didn't want all the people who knew my to end up likeJamie and I; hystarical out of our minds.

The Vampyres moved swiftly and quickly through the trees. If I listened closely, I could hear the soft thumping of Vampyre feet on the mossy, forest floor. I couldn't hear any other person breathing except for Jamie and I, so I figured the smart Vampyre was holding her breath. How did I know it was a girl? I saw a flash of silver hair.

Then, I heard another. A third as well. Three sets of softly jumping feet that were seemingly invisibly wafting through the forest. I couldn't see any of them, only the silver haired Vampyre.

Finally, she attacked. I saw Vampyre claws pirce the air, and beside me Jamie screamed. I felt something light but strong knock me over, perched on my chest. A newborn Vampyre.

The one atop me was newly newborn. Within twenty four hours of her/his birth. Clare. I knew it was her before I reconized her on me. Her lips her dyed a purplish black, and her usual happy eyes were bloodred. She smiled and pulled her lips closer to my neck, her lips curving into a black, bloody smile.
