~The Door~

By: Paige Taylor

Darkness of night,

I have travelled you for so long.

Blinded by such a powerful sorrow,

Sadness and fear.

I have walked within you,

Trapped by all of your many shadows,

All alone and forgotten in the midst of your torment.

Each and every day was a constant struggle for me;

In search of any form of light to desperately grasp.

As I journeyed alone your darkest of paths,

I finally discovered that the pain was

Becoming much too intense to have to endure any longer.

I staggered upon a chamber of doors,

It was once again that the fear engulfed me-

Leaving me without movement.

For weeks upon weeks I sat, curled up into a tiny ball,

Desperately praying for death to soon find me.

With what little I had left,

I drug myself on broken knees to one of the many

Doors and decided to crawl through.

It was through that particular door that I discovered the

Most illuminating light in which I had ever grown to know.

Each day it grows brighter and brighter

More beautiful and more awe inspiring;

Warming my entire body-

Allowing me to stand on my feet

Once again learning to live, love, and laugh

Until my heart can hurt no longer.

I love the hope that you bring at the very end. A tip to show your readers the beauty you see and feel: use imagery and metaphors. Show, don't tell. :)
(Also, the past tense of "drag" is "dragged")
