Stone angel,
staring out across
the cool marble slabs.
Looking up at it,
I see the cracks of pain,
the scars of the world,
almost faceless from grief.
The angel stands alone.
I sit down
at the feet of the
marble one.
looking around,
all I can see,
is lost.
The misty haze
that sweeps the deserted yard.
Stroking the cool stone,
I can almost feel their despair.
How many loved ones lay here?
How many tears have been cried
at the feet of the angel?
A tear splashes on the rock,
melded with the rain
you can see no difference.
Tears fall fast,
why did you have to leave me?
was I really the cause of this?
Weathered stone,
stained with tears,
undecipherable from the rain
that will wash the tears away,
leaving no trace, just memories.
Every smile you smiled,
each hug you gave,
the twinkle in your eye.
All the tears you cried,
have all left their mark,
not just in my heart, but in others too.
they have become your legacy,
all that's left of you.
Ripped from my life,
I never got to say my goodbye.
you left, and never will come back.
the tears I cried,
sleep I lost, over my broken heart.
Slowly it will heal,
I walk away, leaving the stone angel to guard your memory.
