Spiritual Divorce Part One

Spiritual Divorce Part One

A Chapter by Little Mouse
"

How does one reconcile divorce with religious beliefs?

"

God, I’m tired of my rambling prayer to you
I go on and on and on
I know I need to leave
But the bible tells me no
And he won’t go!

Moses said we could divorce
Due to the hardness of our heart
1st Corinthians states the believer cannot leave
Lest they may save the other’s soul
But if the unbeliever wants to go
It is then you can let them go

And yes, the vows, I remember
Till death do us part
But what if we are slowly killing each other
Yes, with the hardness of our hearts

Well…

Your words from long ago
You knew the world would change
You live in me in this present day
And I believe what you have to say

Ramblings unanswered
I prayed one simple prayer:
“God, you need to make this clear…
Give me something in writing tomorrow! Amen.”

The next day a loaned book returned to me
That I was certain would be gone to this day
“Spiritual” preceding “Divorce” by the author Debbie Ford
Odd title, you wouldn’t think it so
Yet great words of wisdom she shares
I remembered as I drove home

I glanced at the book on the passenger seat
It was then I remembered my prayer
I had received something in writing
And it was the very next day

I finally left and in shines continued clarity
Yet still in spiritual limbo
Not prepared to decree the big fat ugly D!
Just for now, I’m waiting for you or him to somehow set me free.

A rarity here, a theological piece that lives in tension. It is clear that there is a strong faith underlying this, but not a blind faith. All of us who take these things seriously feel this same tension between what is said and what is right. There are no easy solution, just decisions. You make your choice based on your most honest interpretation and hope for the best. I love the ultimatum, something in writing. The irony is that the writing we have (biblical) only clouds the issue sometimes. This is a thought provoking poem.

I love this piece.......i feel blasphemous at times............life is hard...the concept of a god is not easy to understand... no one is really an expert.....we been trying to find out for a thousand years. BUt we all need spirituality and peace. I hope u find peace. Maybe a certain religion can't help but u can find peace with oneself. great piece. :D

Hmm, interesting, I like the spirituality and yet somehow the forlorn straining of impatience set in this piece. It brings to light the theological standpoint on divorce versus what is really right for both of the parties involved. I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do, and keep up the great work.

Definitely made me think over marriage and vows! You did such a good job, with biblical references vs. logical/modern day ideas. And of course the pain they all cause. I see a bit of most couples I know in your work!

A very hard place to be in, but, at least you have faith that will carry you through. You expressed the indecision well of the inner turmoil. I wish you the best. A unique but a very good write.

If I recall what you mentioned in a message, I could take this is relevant to your life?...
It's a good poem, I like it.
I'm no religion buff, but I think you've done well.
Keep up the good work.

I understand exactly what you are going through...we are often faced with very difficult decisions in life, but I am pretty sure the way is clear to you :) You just have to believe in yourself...
