I arrived in Delhi before dawn. I was so lost, i don't think words can do justice to my feelings at that point. I was standing at the bus stop with my baby in one hand and suitcase in the other. I wanted to get back in the next bus to my town and just go back to my husbands house. But, no one is going to accept me. By now, i would be the talk of the town. Everyone would have made their own assumptions about my disappearance. Some would have thought that I eloped with a guy that i had an affair with. The rest would blame my parents for their bad upbringing. But, no one really knows the true story. People will talk. My parents won’t accept me too. According to them, I belonged to my husbands family from the day he slipped a ring on my finger. It hurts to know that your own parents won’t either support you or accept you. Maybe thats just the fate of girls like us who are uneducated and married at such a young age. “Are you ok ?’ , An old lady asked me distracting my thoughts. “I am fine, thank you”, i said wiping my tears that was unstoppable. She smiled at me and then handed me her handkerchief to wipe my tears off and she sat next to me. “I can help you. You remind me of my daughter but, you need to tell me your problem first”, she said. I didn’t know if i could trust her even though she looked really sweet. I have heard so many stories about city life about how people act nice with you and steal your belongings or sell young girls to prostitution centres. But, right now i had no option. My chances of surviving in this city seems so low that i need someones help. After taking a deep breath, i told her my entire story and she started crying along with me. “Come with me”, she said but i was scared. “Where ?”, i asked worriedly “ I have an orphanage ten minutes away from here. You can stay there.” , she said and carried my suitcase. I decided to follow her knowing that i had nowhere to go. After a ten minutes walk, we reached the orphanage. © 2017 littlemisspoop |
