Standing Tall

This is a new song I wrote

One day I was traveling into a broken door

I was walking on a broken path

Like a rose rising through the cracks and struggling

I know where I must go so, I can set my dreams free

I am reaching my potential to become my whole self 

I am standing tall

standing tall

like superman

like Hercules

Every time I look into the mirror, I see that broken door

It's facing me and It's hard to breathe, I'm scared of what is on the other side 

I have a lot of demons inside that are trying to come out 

I need to get my head on straight and follow my dreams

Whatever happens

Even if I'm the last standing

I'ma stand tall

Even when Everything's down

I gotta keep dreaming

I gotta keep my head on tight and reach for the stars 

I got my mind made up I know what I want in life

I got the grades and my future 

I found the girl of my dreams

Whenever life threw hell towards me

I just back up like a rose in the sidewalk

The broken door has stopped me for far too long

Hell, better buckle up because I'm gonna rise on top

I got my head on tight and nothing is gonna stop me

My feet are planted and my future is looking bright

All these tribulations have put a cost on me

I have seen things in my life

Nothing will atop my future from coming full circle

LKL poetry isn't a contest in which a score is kept. It's a mindset, an attempt to delve into yourself in order to examine the world in which you inhabit. Any poem anyone ever writes and choses to share with the world is an offering to break bread. As you so elegantly write "I am reaching my potential to become my whole self" is how you should view your work. Sure, you can learn from others, we all do (no matter how long we've at this) but it's your own journey.
