Leaving (Jasper's POV)

"Wow, that's a nasty black eye," the school nurse said. 

"No kidding, is there anything you can do about it?" I asked. 

"No, but I will have to report this to DCF," the nurse told them.

"DCF?" Emmi asked. 

"Department of child and family services," the nurse explained.

"Do you really need to get them involved?" Emmi asked her. 

"Yes, unless you can give me a better explanation," the nurse replied.

Emmi's face was a mask of emotions. I could tell she was unsure if she should tell the nurse about her life. 

"I am part of a Romani community," She told the nurse, "I was hanging out with Jasper and this is punishment."

"Do you want to get out of there?" 

"Yes, but I can't leave my twin brother or Clementine, my little sister," Emmi explained. 

"We can get them out too, we can put you in foster care, or find someone to adopt you," The nurse told her.

"That sounds good," Emmi said, "But only if Clementine and Jace can come with me." 

"Okay. Jasper will you please leave as I call DCF," the nurse said. 

"Alright."

I walked out in the hallway, and breathed a sigh of relief.
