Questions

Questions

A Poem by Madeleine Poisson

When did love turn to hate

When did passion turn to violence

Where did it all go wrong

Why’d he hit her today

Where does his hand sting upon her skin

What kind of monster

would bring those tears to her eyes

Will she laugh off the encounter

as she’s done with all the others

Which excuse

will defend him this time

When does love no longer become enough

Where is the red line

What counts as “too far”

When did she first start drowning and

When did you get so tangled

in your separate identities

that you could not handle

the issue that was them in combination

Why does each question

only lead to another

more complicated one
