If she had stayedA Poem by little-knownAmazingly one decision can change your whole life
So she asked
would I have been your wife if I'd stayed Yes It's all he needs to say The bitter weather's beating at her cheeks The air now almost too cold to breath Leaves crisp underfoot This winter will destroy her yet This certain clarity I see is soul destroying Her island Carved out of the consequences of her decisions Starts sinking I feel it swaying, I see it shaking The bird take flight The fish swim deep Expecting explosions of emotions The revelation of this truth Ignites her old youth Her lake starts rippling Confusion setting in As he did love her in the end She remembers the enormity of the hoping It was easier to leave him than not knowing But she could of been his wife if she'd stayed One tiny decision could of changed everything She started mapping out her future Carving him out of the paper island she had made They were so young Brought up on summer sun Dry grass underfoot The way it always was Warm nights you no longer get This world a different place then Than it is This truth sends ripples through her lake Decisions, declarations, change everything She is left hanging All that was certain Now means nothing © 2014 little-known |
