For a second

For a second

A Poem by little-known

Just for a second there you could of been him
Just for a second
But no-one compares to him
But for the clothes your wearing
Eyes the colour of straw
You could of been him just then
When I saw you from over there

Turn your head just slightly
Yes there it is again
That air of masculinity
Your cheekbones are the same
Your hair the same shade of brown
So dark it could be black

Just for a second there I thought I had him back

For a second all was right
Again I was complete
The missing in me filled back up
A smile began to break
My bed it would be warm again
I could get some sleep
Instead of listening to the night
Listening for his feet

For a second my tummy dropped
My knees they felt all weak
My hands began to shake again
I swear my heart did leap

Just for a second there
I could of been made whole
This darkness that has covered me
Battered and shook my soul

I am nothing without him
I rattle around in my skin
Trying to make some sense
Of why his life did end
You see he was in the army
Blown up in the east
All I got back was a finger
Not even any teeth

Just for a second there you could of been him
Just for a second
