Crown of Stars

Crown of Stars

A Chapter by Gregory Stires

A Crown of Stars

A princess of Crete,

Half-sister to the Minotaur,

Ariadne who fell in love with the hero Theseus,

To help him survive the labyrinth

The young princess gave him a ball of thread

If only he’d take her with him once he made his escape,

But his words were a lie,

For he abandoned

The young princess on a island,

Rescued by the Olympian Dionysus,

Whom had fallen in love with Ariadne

At first site

Upon seeing her distraught state,

And taken to be his beautiful bride,

Upon her tragic death Dionysus

Traveled to the underworld as had done before for his mother Semele.

With her crown Dionysus threw it into the celestial sky

To make the beautiful constellation corona borealis.
