A Lonely Rose in a Desert

A Lonely Rose in a Desert

A Poem by Gregory Stires

A lonely rose

Bearing thee heat of thy sun

Surrounded by nothing

But the sand of the barren dessert

Praying for rain

Wondering if it will ever come

All alone the rose wilts

Slowly petals start to fall

Despair slowly takes the roses spirit

Right when the now pale stem was about to be cut

A tear fell from thee sky

Crying for her friend who she could never reach

Because thee is bound to the sky

Sobbing tears coming from the clouds

Each tear of friendship hitting the barren desert

Roses erupt from thee ground

Replacing thee desert with a

Garden of roses

The roses prayer answered thanking the sky who answered it

Now sky smiles as her friend will never be alone

I was inspired to write my own free verse rendition of your poem which you may keep as your own:

Pleading Rose

A forlorn rose
surrounded by wilderness,
and suffering from drought
pleads in vain for rain.

She wilts as her petals
begin to fall.
Despair begins to
take her spirit.

Just as she was about to swoon,
a tear fell from the sky above
who began to cry for his isolated friend.
Soon, clouds began to sob many tears of friendship.

Her drought ended,
roses erupted from the ground
replacing the barren dessert
with a garden of roses.

The rose thanked the sky
for answering her plea.
The sky smiled back knowing
that his friend would never be alone again.
