Cooling Heat

fight the weather

we only keep a little bit of what we take

the rest is tinder

to fuel the fire

expand the empire

to burn it hotter

to fuel the heat

and fight the collapse

we must keep a little less with every breath

we must die a little more with every beat

I love these type of poems where you read the whole thing and it builds up something and the last two lines then, it clicks and you just go back and read the whole thing again but this time with a perspective.

Great song choice of Supertramp to tie into both the opening "we only keep a little bit of what we take" and closing lines "we must keep a little less with every breath /we must die a little more with every beat". What can we take with us, anyways, when we all ultimately meet the same fate? " Goethe says that "man errs, till he has ceased to strive," and Faust shows us how that ends. Yet we burn with the ember you touch on for some must have "empire" - for what?
