Sound like the mantra of a pessimist, the glass half empty type.
I have a very good friend who had a ropey upbringing, very much like my own, but instead of parking his past where it should be, "dealt with, done" he drags it around with him like a sack of rocks whilst at the same time expecting his life to implode at any minute, and no matter what anybody says to him he will not change or even try to...strange.
Apologies for rambling:)
Hope you are well Dave.

I spend a lot of time around paramedics and firefighters and well, lets just say the people they interact with aren't calling for happy time reasons. The stories they tell me, on a regular basis... it makes me think that there is both a mental health crisis/substance abuse crisis and an extreme lack of public health education. Crazy people should not trust other crazy people... it leads to pure insanity.
I really am a self proclaimed optimist, but to be fair, I do get why many people have this attitude. I do consider myself very lucky that I've never been burned so badly in my life that I have difficulty bouncing back **knocking on wood after that last statement**, but ready something like this--- short, but very much to the heart oof the matter--- is a good reminder that there are people who are going through stuff that you may not have any perspective on, so just be kind.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
Hope you're well

Not always, but usually being positive leads to better outcomes. Makes us more resilient or at least, easier to be around. No one wants to spend too much time with an eternal pessimist. At long as you try and aren't a total a*****e while you do so life will be kind to you in the long run. People who might be going through stuff tend to forget that. They end up isolating themselves further, it's a cycle of dysfunctional social behavior.
