Has a sound of bitterness to it. Whether it is personal or not is not specified, but it states a basic truth. If you are not nice to your children, they may not be nice to theirs. From the state of the current world, I'd say it's a lesson many have yet to learn.

It is hard for all of us to change after a certain point. Not all of us learned how to instill and cope with change at the appropriate age. The world is full of children role playing as adults. Most of us, damaged or not, are completely oblivious to why we share reality together.

And some learn that they don't have to continue the cycle and try a different approach.

Some of us do make it out. I'm one of them. But on a larger scale... this is a real issue. Most of us don't find a way out. We just keep doing the same things differently.

I concur. You are absolutely right. I have been guilty of doing the same thing. The hard love to change.

There is a difference between simply being self aware and truly finding insight. Being self aware just leads to modifying behavior to get away with the same thing... insight is something different, it is a sea change in how you intellectually process thought. And the memories of your past behavior... they remain... it induces extreme self loathing. True self introspection is brutal for some people, it's not always worth it. Past a certain age it usually just induces suicide... which is a separate issue that needs a lot more space to address.

Right! I heard it said, that if you always do the same thing, you will always get the same results. And change isn't changing until it's changed. That's where insight makes all the difference. Thanks

In a way I'm glad that my old man cleared off as it gave me the chance to be the father that I would have wanted mine to be. I didn't have a role model to copy although subconsciously I probably took little bits of folk that I respected.
PLUS my old man was a proper wrong 'un spending time in various prisons for being a prick:)
