Tree

FM 22.7 (5-3)

through a kaleidoscope of distraction 

a good mentor through good counseling 

nurtures the seed, grows the plant

trains the branch, guides the leaf

but never, ever, never, picks the fruit

they let that sprout, they let that ripen

they let that fall to the ground always 

they let that grow 

on it's own terms by it's own means

to face it's own challenge on it's own time

There's much to be said about trees. We can let a tree grow, and unfold it's "inner tree" according to its own nature, or completely control and thwart its growth for our own pleasure as it's done with a bonsai. I think this poem is somewhere in the middle. Thought provoking lines these are.

This is how I feel about leadership. And a good mentor lasts a lifetime, even after the cause. But never do they interfere with growth... which is more difficult than it sounds. A good mentor is hard to find but once you do, they are invaluable for a lifetime.
