No matter when I look, the 'News' is always depressing! Politics, conflict, sex confessions, disputes and many more stories, all enough to make one head for a desert island, strip off one's clothes and be happy naked in super sunshine on golden sands. Naturally, you'll want to have a girl Friday to keep your mind centred on what she is doing with your 'body'!

How true is that Dave. If you are in the US, I am from the UK. Your poem applies to both. Then China, Hong-Kong, Russia, Middle East in general. Who is pulling the strings of the world? Some very fat cat, you can be sure of that.

It's not the actual news that's really depressing, it's how it is being presented. And audiences have now been trained to focus only on short, hyperbolic content that has more in common with 'click-bait' than it does with journalism. The people in charge of "pulling the strings" aren't some organized cabal of old men twirling their mustaches and smoking cigars in some elitist club. It's everyone of us who is indirectly responsible for this. If peace, love and harmony made more money, i.e got more "views/hits" which would drive more ad revenue which is where most of the money is made these days... there would be more news about peace, love and harmony. But the vast majority of the population is more interested in reading about conflict in a way that flatters their side of the issue regardless of actual unbiased facts. Take ad revenue out of social media and online news reporting and you have a very, very different tone across the board for journalists while social media would crumble under it's own weight. Who is pulling the strings? We are, our preferred choices of what news to consume on a regular basis is.
