Seems to be a comment on the current political scene. Although the far right comes first to mind when reading these lines, the far left engages in the same practices. When I was young, few people took these types seriously. Times have changed, and for the worse.

Both extremes of the spectrum are fundamentally the same things in different clothes.

Both sides weave the narrative of an invisible enemy, when the only true enemy is said narrative. But these types of poems, the poets and the people who agree...does give me some semblance hope. Political is where you took me with this. Everyday we have this rammed down our throats over Brexit. On the one hand we are doomed and there will be a catastrophic fallout, shortage of food, shortage of medicines and the end of the world is nigh. And on the other hand is probably the grossly exaggerated talks of huge trade deals and economic growth and falling prices. Everyone has taken sides and the whole thing is divisive.Just go with the democratic vote and do what the people instructed Parliament to do. We live in a democracy or do we?

The topics of discussion are different but it's basically the same... one extreme is saying the complete opposite of the other when in reality things are somewhere in between. Whether it be about the economy, crime, immigration, social justice, etc... there is this huge divide and on either side you have people dug so far deep into their ideology that are willing to ignore obvious facts that don't support their world views or even believe in or pretend to ignore obvious lies any rationally unbiased person would be able to recognize immediately. It used to be funny to observe but now it's kinda sad and a little disturbing. These are strange times we live in.
It does make a compelling argument for the apathetic to get out and vote though. In the end that's the only real solution, vote the craziness out of office. Unfortunately we don't live in a pure democracy, not in the UK or the USA. We live in a representative democracy where individual votes don't matter as much as we think they do. Over here we have a president that actually lost the popular vote by 3 million votes but won in the electoral college which is put together in a less than transparent manner.
