I don’t know the gentleman in question at all. Having said that, your observation in general is spot on. Your comment below about people who treat day to day interactions like a job interview is again appreciated a lot. I have a very specific dislike to them and it almost always shows up in my interactions with them 😹 Enjoyed very much David! Never stop being you.

It's unimportant who this about for the most part. The trait I was writing about is a universal one in a whole lot of people no matter where you go. I think we all have a need to appear credible but some people take it to a level that's just pathetic. I really do think it stems from self hatred and a low self esteem; those who are not satisfied with their original character are almost compulsively driven to validate themselves in artificial and manicured ways. I try my best to say f**k it, be who you are and let the chips fall where they may. It's a more impressive personality trait than almost anything. Of course, that's not always practical in the real world.

Hello David. I have had no contact with this particular person, however I have to say I recognise the type of behaviour you have written about. I know it from the business world when I was working. There were several I can think of over the years who couldn't help but brag about all their qualifications or who they knew. So full of their own importance that you just knew they must be insecure. Why come out with all that crap, it's irrelevant. There's much truth in your lines and it did make me smile when I reflected on those I worked with who had these traits.

Isn't it an annoying behavior? But I understand that it's not always as insidious as it appears to be. Some people just don't have enough self confidence to let themselves be themselves. It's understandable in the case of something like a job interview or when you're putting together a resume but when people conduct themselves that way in everyday life it can be tiring to deal with. You can't have real conversations with people like that... it's like a constant pissing contest and no one really benefits from that.

Social media has augmented this issue immensely I think, the younger humans are all pretending to be something else for someone else pretending to be something else... it's kinda bizarre but, such is life these days.

Also, it pleases me to hear that I've made you smile.

Whenever someone lists their past accomplishments to casually impress and/or persuade, think less of them. Truly impressive people just are without having to overtly qualify it. People who treat day-to-day interaction like a job interview are usually insecure, over stated, and borderline fraudulent at best.
