Oppressed and Entitled

Oppressed and Entitled

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

they are mutually exclusive

"
you are not oppressed
you're entitled
within paper thin skin
from an egg shell skull
you're not suppressed
you are coddled
into some emo nuisance
now professionally outraged
you are not a warrior
you're a panderer
only fashionably engaged
only superficially intellectual
manufacturing contempt
addicted to that feeling you get
when you think you've made a difference
because you're smart and important
when you give yourself that pat on the back
for being "special" and enlightened
          but you never look further
          you never go deeper
          you ignore all dissent
using the fight for civil rights
as your license to be cunty
condescending and f*****g stupid
we were never oppressed
it's why protesting can be fashionable
why there's a whole culture of outrage
and no one can stop it. . . not even your enemy
we are all of us entitled
to all manner of moralized bullshit
right or wrong, silly or brilliant - we can be all of it
but oppressed or entitled are terms mutually exclusive
you cannot have your cake. . .  etc., etc.,.
