Less Than Zero

Less Than Zero

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

.

"
you're a loser
your confidence is fake
your success is all luck
you smile out of fear
you frown for no reason
you act like a schmuck
in public. . .
you drink too much beer
you assume without thought
you're barely awake
enough. . .
you hide all your faults
one brick at a time
one wall at a time
one flaw at a time
all your memorable moments
you hide from your pain
you run from your love
you hide inside the insane
inside the mundane
away from what's real
because. . .
you're a loser
because. . .
you have nothing real to offer
to anyone or anything
or at least,
that's what you tell yourself
that it couldn't be clearer
everyday in the mirror
you can only see nothing
and that terrifies you
infinitely

Well, it was like this was literally like a poem about me... You have an ability to make the words SPEAK to people, you know that? I felt myself noddin in shame along each line. I like the part where you mention hiding all of your faults brick by brick. It makes me think of Pink Floyd's song, brick in the wall? That's the name? Yeah. I think so. It has that sort of tone.
Anyways, I did enjoy the raw truth and that killer of an end
"everyday in the mirror
you can only see nothing"
great job, Dave!

Thanks sarah. This one was kind of a downer. More so than usual.

Sometimes the 'downer' poems are the ones we need to hear...

That is very true.

Loved the staccato brevity of it. Probably not a good idea to include it in a resume, though.

Thanks. And I agree... this is probably not something to put your linkedin profile.
