What You No Longer Have

can be an issue if you know what you've lost

It is easy to hate what you do not have

Especially if you once did

Romance always looks cheesy 

     all alone

Like a stupid music video

     all alone

Pandering for exposure. . .

     you tell yourself

It's all just a hallmark card for morons
Jack asses and idiots alike

     you say to yourself before drifting to sleep

All alone

         by yourself

From an empty bed

It is easy to hate what you do not have

What you never had you may not miss but will probably envy, if that the right words, those that are happy and content, no ???
I never thought I could love and appreciate anyone as much as I do my wife. She took a mish mash of the bits that I was at the time of our meeting and put them together in such a way that I even got to liking myself.

can be an issue if you know what you've lost.'

Unless you get lucky early, falling in love is not exactly a clean game. For almost all of us it's like this.

Intimacy is not exactly something you learn in school. From all the joy and discovery to all the misery and disappointment... none of us are prepared for any of it until after the fact.

I relate to the emotion of this poem a lot. It's beautiful in the sense that, when we are in love and with someone, it feels very real and fulfilling, and our whole outlook can change when we are no longer in that situation anymore. Negative emotions overwhelm, which I felt was very accurate from your poem.
I love the line

Ignorance truly is bliss, I think. What you never had, you cannot miss... I agree with your sentiment whole heartedly.

It's like asking, would you rather have lived rich but died poor and miserable or lived humbly and died happy?
It's not always an easy question to universally answer. A lot of us are purely hedonistic these days.

Given the nature of this conversation I feel I have to mention the old saying... "it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all".

HHmmm, it's sort of the other way round isn't it? I'm not sure I would agree with it. How could you ever be content again, losing something so valuable. You would feel empty inside once it's gone. Nothing would feel the same.

Depends how you approach life. To me, life is both loss and renewal. You cannot have one without the other. To let yourself be ruined by one robs you of the other... and you could get lost over any random instance of bad luck.
