To my mind, people genuinely driven by ideology are rare, few and far between. Most people (I mean the average person on the street) are easily swayed, herd driven and do not even have properly formulated opinions on most burning issues, much less subscribe to a concrete, coherent belief system or an ideology. (Some do pretend though and they are a real pain in the ***)

Mostly in a political sense. It's why I think American politics has become so toxic, ideology prevents either side from finding a middle ground as they both are dug in so deeply on one side or another they refuse to concede even obvious truths if they don't fit their world view. But when things directly affect their personal lives they seem to act in whatever manner gives them the best chance at achieving their ends. But that's just the reality of human nature in a modern western society. The real trouble comes when someone adheres so completely to their ideals that they refuse to even acknowledge the possibility of being wrong, or inefficient or even counterproductive. Because everything changes over time, especially people and society, it would be foolish to expect a single set of static ideas used to interpret and navigate the social world would not need to change with that world. It's why s**t like slavery lasted so long, why communisim lasted so long in russia that it took a total societal collapse to change, why women are still completely marginalized in the middle east, why women weren't allowed to vote in America until the early 1900's, some of todays mass shootings, most of the todays bigotry, every single one of the crusades, why people still think the earth is flat, that space isn't real, and the moon landing was fake etc., etc... that list goes on and on. The reasons for horrible s**t like that sticking around so long despite obvious reasons to the contrary is disciplined adherence to ideology - when people cling to it so tightly it makes them irrational.
I don't believe we need an ideology to make good choices anymore. But it would mean you actually have to think for yourself all the time though. And most people are too lazy for that... so they rely on an ideology to make most of their value judgements for them.
There's a whole other apsect regarding conspiricay theorist's but I think I've boreed you enough already.

Most think he did this for vanity based purposes... others think he is being funded by the Russian government. Due to his poor business acumen and bankruptcies no other banks in the world will finance his business outside of Russian banks which operate in a largely unregulated environment often times in concert with the Russian government. Dave matthews is my favorit band too. Ideology is a myth. Everything is pure self interest

I don't know where you got the idea that he is my favorite musician. Anyway, ideology is not a myth, that's obviously a silly and poorly thought out thing to say. Ideologies exist everywhere with respect to almost every aspect of life; more often than not they make the world easier to make sense of because individually we have a very a narrow physical perspective... we can only see so much, we can only know so much, etc.. My point was that they can be counter-productive or even dangerous if they are too rigid and hostile in response to legitimate change.
And the argument that 'everything is pure self interest' is some trendy emo non-sense. I take it you don't have children or have ever cared for an ill person or have ever served in the military? Selflessness is very real. My guess is that you're projecting something personal into a universal statement... and that's almost always a really stupid idea.
temporary? perhaps because men, western men, are so ingrainedly hierarchical. Hell, even Newtons
"mathematical principals of natural Philosophy" is dated. Father time Is, as they say, is undefeated./ dana

Every social animal in nature has a hierarchy. From song birds to elephants to chimps to wolves to humans, it's a fact of nature - alpha males and alpha females are not exclusive to western culture. There are a ton of differences between men and women that can be explained by social culture... the hierarchal nature of our social world is not one of them. Now, this does not mean it's the way it always should or will be. That's the essence of the above poem actually, things must be able to change with the environment to continue successfully.
Most references to the statement 'men are more hierarchal, women are more egalitarian' come from a study and paper written by a Swiss women named Dr Marianne Mast way back in 2004. Do you really think things in 2018 are the same as 2004? I would argue, no, they are not. And I would further argue that to deny that is to deny the progress that the feminist movement has made over the past 14 years. We shouldn't have to always be overstating an injustice to honestly continue addressing it. Eventually people will call bullshit and your credibility ends up in the toilet and all that progress becomes undermined from it.
