My Battle Buddy

My Battle Buddy

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

it's not a rational poem. there are reasons that just wouldn't fit.

"
within an unequivocal respect
lies the model of an attraction
that lasts far beyond any ship wreck
beyond all the piles of dead bodies
and far above the tallest of mountains. . .
even beyond the furthest seas
and all of the other trivial things
so impossible to perfect all alone

what breeds the reasons
for the truest of self sacrifices
in the name of protecting
something special
and very precious
to the very ends
of something fatal

for no other reason

than that complete
and totally unequivocal
      respect for a soul mate
the one that never needed to be purely rational
is that thing that defines our ultimate respect
and gives cause to the most costly of sacrifice

I am here
until they kill me
or you die

Good early morning from me, and probably late, late night for you. This poem speaks to me about the occasions in life when for no rational reason you are able to really connect with another person in a deep and special way. I am not talking about family members here, but I am talking about other people you can meet on your journey from all walks of life who you just have huge respect for. That type of respect that will last forever. It is a connection of souls, and it has happened to me on a number of occasions. A friend and neighbour of 20 years who died twelve years ago and left three young children, and twin sisters who I have known since I was 16. It doesn't matter if I don't see them for sometime, and it isn't about ordinary friendship, it goes far beyond that. I'm not sure that is what you intended with this writing, but that is what I picked up on an emotional level. You are producing some really good stuff at the moment.

I got a great deal of imagery from these lines. I was thinking combat and the sort of relationships you must develop over time with those you are with day by day and night by night. Through thick and thin, they are your family and you have their back covered and they yours. I imagine extraordinary relationships develop in those situations, where you feel bound spiritually and emotionally. That's where you took me. All the best David. I've just realised I've answered this one before. Not a problem, it was well worth another response.

My friend, perhaps my only, once said to another, he (meaning me) would never let go of the rope holding me (meaning him), we would both go over together. Jesus! How I hoped that was true. How I earnestly pray he was right.

It's always important to be earnest with regard to these matters.
I have come to really enjoy your poems about friendship and this one is no exception. I love meeting new people, and having new friends. Those moments that you feel a connection between you and someone else that tells you that you'll get along swimmingly. Living through different circumstances and seeing life through others' eyes. Human connection is absolutley amazing.

Connecting with other humans is the best part about being human... or at least a very close second. .. read more

At first I couldn't get the exact point that what's this poem meaning or trying to convey....now after going through some of the comments I've got some in my mind.....it's that in the battle of life or through the journey of harsh climates all can be done perfectly may if a battle partner is there with you....and all can't be put perfect alone as you say...
Indeed for such partners there's no need to have a rationality between you and them...and the moment I understood this one I think I've witnessed some sort of bonds like this before around my atmosphere...
It's a good piece to read for me...thank you.

Good Day!
There is no rationale behind it. That kind of connection in the killing fields, in those bloody trenches, in battle and in life. Superseding humanness. Holding out in deadly combat, for each other. What makes one feel like that for another? I can't say. I've never been there where you have. Never seen it so close, up front or felt how you felt there. I can, in humility, understand that this is something far, far beyond the usual human equation, beyond life, beyond end, and when it happens, wherever, however, it will last. I know it will. It has to.
