Yes it requires great discipline to change what we know needs changing. Even if that is down to things which are damaging ourselves like smoking or drinking, rather than what can damage other people. It requires strength, huge strength of character. I started to watch the video, but my fear of violence, stopped me after a couple of minutes, so I listened to Anne Sophie Mutter instead. My fear of violence, doesn't harm anyone, certainly doesn't harm me, but I question why I have it and where it comes from.

To expand to the sheer numerical size the human population currently sits at demands having far less warriors than scholars or artisans. Your temperament is what our species success is due too... not the warrior's. That aversion to violence and predilection toward problem solving in a cooperative manner is what makes all of this possible...it is what brought us here.
Anne Sophie Mutter is one of the most talented human beings on the planet... the warrior cannot outnumber the artesian if we hope to have that kind of uniquely specialized greatness. (if you ever get a chance to see her perform live do whatever you can to make that happen - you will never ever, ever forget it)
The only time that I've actually looked inside myself, willed myself to do anything was the day I was run over on a construction site, and to this day, 30 years later, I can remember laying thinking " I ain't gonna die on a building site" as the dumper trucks trundled up my right leg, across my chest before, uckily, sliding off the right side of my face. Although it knackered my knee, pushed my pelvis out of line and messed up my hand for a while, the only long term effect from this was to give me an easy going, carefree outlook on life.
To be told you should have died is a wee bit of an eye opener.
Good morning, evening David, hope all is well with you.

You see things in a way most cannot.
Some would call you lucky... but not for the right reasons.

It's always good to read your reviews gee... you're a good man. That's not as common as it should be.

Take care.

Another great read from a great poet. Your poem could actually be used as an opening quote for "The evil within" videogame. The greatest part is your poem acts as both a poetry and a quote, inspirational nah expressive yes. Truly a fascinating piece of work.
This was a very interesting piece. The hardest thing for a human being to do is change but when attempted, their true character shows. I watched both videos and this is my first time listening to Sophie Mutter. Very talented! I play music myself so I appreciate every note. Fantastic. Thank you for sharing this.

Self will, self-determination and the power to want to change within. Can move mountains and make you a better person. It is just the struggle within and the wisdom to want to change that makes the difference as well. Expressed eloquently.
Its said that those who cannot conquer themselves are weak. Having said that, it would take an almost unearthly force to break oneself to bits and rebuild. I think it would take a very very strong motivation for that kind of violence on self. While, you have it in you to break and become yourself, I wonder what motivates you. (You don't have to say it if you don't want to)

And in the last few "self evaluation" seminars it's become clear that I've been a self serving a*****e in regards to almost all my personal relationships for the past several years. I've had good reason some of the time but I started to notice that I was rationalizing why I should be an a*****e a little to vigorously. It started to become clear to me that I was trying to find reasons to be a dick to people first instead of trying to find common ground first. And that's just not a good way to treat people... I became the problem, I was becoming the jerk to others before anyone else had a chance to be a jerk to me... like some kind of an emotional cancer.
