when you turn to the eternally reliable and it just isn't there, that day what a feeling of dread, that is left in it's place god is dead god does live who can tell? after that what's the point? all's the same
all's just time dead alive all's just matter intertwined
Truly written well because it evoked strong emotions which is a poems job right?
Of course I may interpret this poem differently than intended, but I think it has so well depicted how useless a person who gave their life for something could feel if once they look into the box, the thing they gave their life for... is dead.
Before the box is opened there is all the hope in the world, but if the hope is limited to this world only, how pitiful would a life given for such hope be.
A people who give their lives knowing of such a risk must have quite the motivation.

The arbitrary part of that thought experiment is when, how and for what purpose that decision is eventually made. Purpose as we define it will always be arbitrary, the very act of defining something as complex as purpose inherently changes it's meaning to someone, somewhere, at some time. We are not equiped with with senses sensitive enough to deal in absolutes with any absolute certainty, it's just not how we process the world around us. Nor do we have the lifespan to witness all outcomes. We will always see things from our individual perspective in space-time; it's part of what makes us concious I think. Even the basic concept of certainty is qualified from a position of uncertainty... the word itself is imprecise. Kinda blends into the uncertainty principle a little bit, i.e.. you may quite precisely measure a quantum particle's speed or location but never both at the same time. The very act of measuring one inherently changes the value of the other. Of course, I could be totally wrong about all of this... I smoke a lot of weed on Saturday mornings... I might be remembering that s**t all wrong.

For what reason a purpose is descided would be made evident by the absolute power that gives us the ability to understand absolutes.

I don't know why, but reading this made me remember a quote from a tv show called Altered carbon: “Oh, Mr. Kovacs, haven't you heard?GOD IS DEAD…we have taken his place.”
I find this provocative and melancholy.
You bring in this, a broadly scoped question, I think, which could be asked of many things in this universe.

Illusions...we create for ourselves..to fill the meaninglessness of existence. If we didn't have them, what would be there to live for? Eternally reliable is what I may label it for my own comfort. The reality may be different and tough to grapple with. I tried to understand the cat experiment but fail to do so.

Don't worry about the cat thought experiment... it's not at all intuitive and only relevant to the quantum particle world. I had to have it explained to me several different times in several different ways and I still don't truly understand it.
