pretend cute
with-a viscious monsta'
I do love ya dear
for the last time darlin'
ms meet cute
darlin' propa'
on some road to nowhere
just come with me
call me mr charming
charismatic and unalarming
(i'm going to kill you now)
like nothin' ever happened
like you never mattered
my doe eyed dear,
you shoulda' picked
a very different car
for your ride to the store
but now, here we are
tonight (please close your eyes)
this is going to hurt
a whole lot
for the rest of your life
(until you truly become, my spirit wife)
we will never forget each other
for the rest of our lives after that
we will never forget the 'other'
never again, no
.... not after that
Original play on "Ted Talks." Since I often listen to the TED Talks on NPR or YouTube, your title caught my attention. The poem was a surprise. I studied Ted Bundy in college, in a sociology class on "social deviance." You captured him accurately here. Perhaps the ideal image of the human predator, the dark side that lies within each human. I think he and Hitler and few others would get along well, sadistic b******s we don't miss but should never forget. They remind us of our capacity as human beings to commit evil. Impressive write on a hideous subject.

It truly is fascinating to look into someone who is not only intelligent and charismatic but brutally insane in a very, very sadistic way. If anyone could ever personify evil in the flesh it would be Ted Bundy. He could of done anything...
There is another fellow you may have heard of, Ed Kemper. He's slightly less dark but no less insane, predatory, intelligent or brutal. Mr Kemper (aka the co-ed killer) is actually still alive and is surprisingly self aware of what he is. Netflix made a show partly basing a major character on him (Mindhunters). And they portray him perfectly... that show is f****n' creepy. You should watch it.

As for Kemper, I was familiar with him, but learned more after watching Mindhunters. They do an excellent job with his character. He scares me for the reasons you mentioned. Watching the show, you can see how a victim might've trusted him only long enough to lose their life.

just remember a man's best friend my be a dog. However, Ladies I'm telling you a women's best friend is a good grouping. It's a plus if you can touch paper at 100. :)
John, You did a masterful job capturing a modern day monster.

It must be terrible to be startled by death in the throes of ecstasy. At least he was good looking. On a more serious note, by stepping into his car, the victims picked the unknown casually, they took the chance with their lives.

Especially among college students and counter culture hippies. Until guys like Ted Bundy and Ed Kemper exploited the naiveté of young, idealistic young adults who haven't yet processed the dangers of the world around them. Nobody really hitchhikes anymore in America these days, partially because of prolific serial killers like Bundy and Kemper.
