i can control my breathing, i learned that from wrestling through unfavorable positions it feels like, for a living I once did this but really, it was just for sports because what i really call a living you'd call a series of f*****g jokes and of me, an unserious being. . . none the less, i can control all sorts of things, i learned it from wrestling, and from my father who said all life's a game so amuse yourself and try very, very f*****g hard when you do so
if they were actual words from your father - I think I'd get along with him sweet as honey :) When I was 12 and made my first holy communion afterwards my dad (who is not catholic) said to me - if you ever get sick of being a catholic, just change - those words, as well as many other have stuck with me all through life ... needless to say I am not religious now, well if I am I create my own anyway ...
yeah your opening line reminded me to give Holotropic breathing another go - yeah yeah I will.
Wrestling huh? I practised Ninjutsu for years - gave it up because of too many top level ego maniacs made me question who the hell was actually understanding BUDO at it's heart of hearts and who was just understanding not much at all.
good words - got me thinking X

Oh yes, those were definitely things he would say to me growing up. You wouldn't get along with him.. read moreOh yes, those were definitely things he would say to me growing up. You wouldn't get along with him though, he was a terrible human being in most ways.
Did you know that conventional psychiatry defines most of what Stanislav Grof calls 'holotropic modes of consciousness' as a type of general psychosis akin to schizophrenia or any type of dissociative disorder? I think very interesting things could be discovered if one truly figures out how to willfully enter modes of psychosis without heavy doses of drugs or extreme physical stress. Have you ever spent time in a sensory deprivation chamber (isolation tank)? It's a spectacular experience.
There is an older movie called "Altered States" that addresses this topic with the use of isolation tanks but also in conjunction various psychedelic drugs; which kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. It's a good movie with an interesting thesis, for the most part.

You are right that life is a joke. I think the only way to be in control is to live without rules. Most people are jokers, red nosed clowns taking themselves and life too seriously.
Any discussion on breathing control makes me nervous

And only narcissistic a******s think they know what they really are, that they are east to understand and that they are universal. They were right about the last part. You and I may not believe in a lot of the more contemporary and profane rules of the day but that does not mean there aren't universal natural laws/rules. Mathematics, for example; a fellow from your lands that went by the name of Srinivasa Ramanujan developed a lot of his brilliant contributions to the world of mathematics in isolation with very little formal education. He intuitively understood the rules of natural mathematics... the only way to truly be in control is too intimately understand and live in between the rules. Not without them, actually, it's quite the opposite. . .but with the same result.
