A Valentine to Renewal

in the spirit of a new year

to her time passing, her time dying, and the renewing;

(we love the renewal)

and to the spirits,

who we've been toasting for centuries.

in the hall of the living, from the hall of the light...

let us toast the great spirit of Valhalla!

        to the hall of her dead... !

    where wars leaves her warriors,

to dine among gods and forget they were men.

    we shall toast to the spirit of humanity,

in the light of how far we've come,

in the shadow of the lost forgotten

departed, from us...

     now cheers to the found remembered!

between old and new friends...

so I will remember the good parts

 the betterment of this new year completed

if only to soften our follies ahead

(I like pets, mostly cats... dogs are cool too but I really do prefer cats.)

I like the title, and this was so nice to read since we are at the beginning of the new year hoping for it to be a good one. We do cheer to how far we've come, and old memories worth remembering.

Reading it a second time, in a different frame of mind, I can see maybe I mis-judged that line. Still think it's a solid poem overall. Good work.
