Firstly, the music video was appropriate for this delightful concept of black. This has set me off on a Amy Winehouse marathon. It saddens me that she is no longer with us, but she did leave quite a legacy behind. But I digress.
Color symbolism is simple and complex depending on perception. Artists view "black" as the blend of all colors of the spectrum which differs from the writer's; this is the "dark." The speaker depicts this color as absent of all color instead. I can see where this is coming from especially when I think in terms of light. Without light, black is all we see. Opposition is a common theme throughout this piece. In contrast, "white" is depicted as encompassing color; this is the "light." The introduction to black and white then delves into a monologue about human nature; it is cruel and kind.
Overall, "black" is associated with death while "white" portrays life. Despite positive and negative, there is a glimmer of grey. Goodness has pride depicted in the following line, "...to make a superior point." Self righteousness is apart of life as well. The writer concludes that death is a viable solution. Thank you for sharing!

Not at all what the meaning was but that's okay, if it makes sense to you in that way go with it. I almost always mix physics, biology, psychology, and sociology... not so much art. Saying white is the absence of color is something I would call ridiculously naïve... I do love to look at quality painting but I find most painters are not working off any fundamental fact of reality, they are more illusionist than any writer or philosopher. They only seem real while actively representing something in an unreal way. Its part of their appeal to me but also why I don't take anything they say seriously.

Artists are illusionists? Hmmm.... not even a true artist would agree with you.

I admit that I was inconsistent because partially the way through I was not sure how to respond especially since I read this after waking up. I just wanted to speak current thoughts rather than continue arguing about differing opinions because I don't wish to change your thought process. It made me think and ended up in confusion. I didn't think what I said was petty or rude. In fact, I complimented you. I also did not state that artists aren't illusionists. I said that are NOT JUST illusionists hence the last quote I used that I thought summarized my point. I'll have to ask fellow "true artists" that I know personally to see what they think.
Thank you for honesty. Two final questions: Do you view Illusionists in a negative light? What was your original meaning and purpose for this piece?

If you can stand a little vitriol you can say anything you want to me. Most people see me as a caustic fire here to ruin whatever comes my way. That's only partially true... I am caustic and I do want to ruin those who rant without substance. But more importantly I like to offer the intelligently meek a way to pick themselves up and see that words really are just words. If you can defend your ideas intelligibly in my "fire", my hope is then that you will be worth more to yourself when you leave my crucible of relative nastiness. No one dies, it's just a thing... like falling off a bike. None the less, I know I could stand to be less of a dickhole... I know that is part of me that needs burning. I do try my best to hold myself to that same standard.
You're a good person, I'm glad you read and comment on my things. I'd review you and other's more but I'm inherently cynical. I wish I could be more positive but I simply don't naturally have it in me. I am toxic by nature.

I would appreciate your thoughts on my work, but it does not bother me that you do not. Reading others should be a pleasant experience, not forced. Again, I am simply pleased to review your work. I enjoy a good debate as long as it is delivered in a constructive matter. I'll admit that I am not always happy about certain comments or agree with them. Like you said, your "fire" is not going to kill anyone. I think people let their ego and sensitivities get in the way. However, what would be the point if we all thought alike?

Here is the end of my rant. I should probably stop writing when I wake up. :P Good day to you!
I liked the contrast, and as a color artist, I actually had to research some of the theories behind your piece to help bring clarity to the definitions and deficits of my personal understanding. Very well done!
