Omitted Ingredients

Omitted Ingredients

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

"you lack the season of all natures, sleep" - Lady Macbeth

"

what have you got?

sleeplessness;

not quite answered questions...

what you don't want.

surely,

not ingredients to be missed.

so here we are then

what else have we got?

your own seasons, our own nature;

("your own nature")

lacking ingredients.

able still to prosper...

like a good human

we will be there

"and you all know security

is mortal's cheifest enemy"

said Hecate he;

in a play written by an idealized man

who may never have existed at all

not then not now

not next fall

with the leaves

with the mist

we fool ourselves

and great ideas live forever

of the greatest tricks that the human simulacrum ever pulled

it must be convincing the many there were but few

that stands atop the many

This is challenging to interpret but if I take a guess, I think sleep could be the omitted ingredient but that may not be it. On a side note though, I like how this poem has that references to Shakespeare's Macbeth. I have read some of his plays and as difficult they are, I still enjoyed the plays I've read.

Are you insinuating there is only one who stands above the many?

Or there's no one who stands above the many?

I like the first and last stanza, but the middle seems so vague that it's nearly incomprehensible

This is my favorite so far. Eluding a quiet helplessness, because sadness is always lovely, isn't it?
