The Natural Crown

The Natural Crown

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

.

"

under the mid-day sun that makes my green leaves green

on the trees in my front yard; i hold court over the living things

from inside my crown box, on a slab and slightly seperated

from my green leaves

or sometimes from the chairs on my front portch

behind a wind screen; observing my green kingdom and all that is in it

like a coward, from a den

under protection

behind a body of laws

used in extorting each other into cooperation

from the great implication, from order comes progress

men like me are no lions

for the lion needs no den, not law

for all of the savannah

and everything in it

falls under his dominion

a natural king

the apex, the keystone

to all things concerned

a cats life is better
