In the internets, a hugbox is a derogatory term for an environment, usually on the internet, in which a group with similar interests gathers to discuss topics in what they intend to be a safe, comforting, and confrontation-free environment.

What they intend to be a "safe space" almost always turns into a circle-jerk of forced consensus and ends with every member repeatedly expressing the exact same opinion to each other, no matter the topic. Since the community is founded on unconditional love and support no matter how much of a tool a person is, these communities tend to attract tools and rational and useful advice is usually a rarity.

Moderators of these groups are usually extremely militant and do not tolerate even the slightest dissenting opinion. Members of these groups are usually so hypersensitive that the moment a contrary opinion appears the entire community explodes in a total drama shitstorm.

The hugbox insult is also a great way to troll autism-themed communities. It's guaranteed to earn you countless replies from angry fucktards telling you that you are a horrible human being. Just remind them how glad they can be not to be nerds any more, now that they've digivolved into some new kind of tard. "

"The Dangers Of Hugboxes

Hugboxes have an insidious way of inflating egos and making people act like self-aggrandizing drama queens. Such people start off fairly normal but, after prolonged exposure to their hugbox, slowly but surely, the weirdness starts to creep into their normal lives and everybody else suffers for it. Losers who fap to cartoon animals don't just suddenly one day decide they need a thousand dollar mascot costume with strategically placed holes to wear around town, that s**t starts off in a hugbox like Ponychan or deviantArt.

Much as the vampire's coffin shelters the monstrosity within from the searing light of day, a hugbox allows the aspie within it to find refuge from the painful truths of their existance. As such, they are breeding grounds for faggotry and should be destroyed wherever they are discovered."

Interesting. I think having a safe and supportive environment is important and different views are equally important but the challenge is keeping things friendly and respectful. Poets are very passionate and protective of their craft.
