I Thought of you Today

I Thought of you Today

A Poem by Lisa Victoria
"

The memory of a past love is slowly revealed until all that is left is the bitter truth....

"
I Thought of You Today

I thought of you today
life's echoed memories
of years long passed
and dreams since lost
yet, remain unseen

I thought of you today
your green eyes meeting mine
your sweet embrace igniting me
your lips, your kiss, exciting me
alas, forever gone from me

I thought of you today
of how it could have been
of dreams foretold
of growing old
'though it never could have been

I thought of you today
the shadows went away
the truth remains of bitter pain
of tears, and fear throughout the years
NO- WILL NEVER BE AGAIN!

I really loved how you used the same starting line for each stanza. There was a bitter sweet sadness in the line when you say you drempt of getting old but it never was going to happen, I think this is such a sad but relatable feeling that most people who have had a significant relationship end feel, you dealt with it really well, overall a very beautiful poem!!

Awesome read!! You portrayed how us women feel when we think we "lost" someone, but as we keep thinking, we realize they were never ours to begin with, or we wouldn't have had so much pain in that relationship. It brought me back to thinking about an old "love". Everything I thought about, you expressed here in this poem!!

I love writing poetry. It's a true therapy for me.
This poem touched me very deeply, not only was it delicately and beautifully written, but the emotions and memories described are identical to the ones that to this day are inscribed in my head. And I think you have captured the memories of first love and first heartbreak brilliantly, you are completely when you state: "I thought of you today
of how it could have been
of dreams foretold
of growing old
'though it never could have been"

With our first love, we always assume its forever, and most of the time get disappoint. Also we never really forget our first love, no matter how many years pass, a memory or "thought" once in a while always comes up and brings out the bitter sweet nostalgia.

Thank you Raven, glad you enjoyed this:)
This poem is amazing! Just reading it aloud, it has a very lyrical quality to it and the use of enjambment creates a flow throughout the poem... like music :) I love the use of repetition "I thought of you today" at the beginning of each stanza... I love how you've created this sense of movement from the sweet memories of love to the reality of bitter pain, and ending with the powerful bold words "NO - WILL NEVER BE AGAIN!" creates a really strong impact and concludes the poem very strongly indeed.
Well done!

Yes, yes we do:)
Too often people only remember the good times. Usually there were plenty of bad times too or the relationship would not have come to an end. A bittersweet write filled with regret, but also empowerment. I enjoyed it. lydi**
