Camouflage

Camouflage

A Poem by LisaButterfly

Camouflage

It suddenly dawned on me
I'm going to be lost not found if I choose to search

Some say I look Egyptian
A Portuguese singer
Nepali
Laura Pausini
Spanish
Arab eyes
If I am lucky some say I really really look Italian

Well I say
I can blend in anywhere
Because I am a Chameleon
Unbound
Uncategorised

Hybrid identity
Bi-cultural identity
Excuse me
That's reducing me

I float between globalness
And feelings of inclusion
To brownness and whiteness
Where whiteness is the oppressor
And I have been the oppressor
Don't know if I have been though
A victim or a survivor

My roots have been taken from me
And my leaves fickley follow the winds that have been rode before

And I''m guided
By a whimsical wisdom
To spaces where I feel connection
An invitation
An open door
For me to see but not enter

Curly hair brown eyes
Stlll shots of women's hand that look like mine
Reflections of me
Fingers tanned

But no matter where my feet take me
I'm free and floating
Because I am born and raised on Earth
Moving with the winds

I find branches to rest my wings on
And prepare to relaunch

Grounded in the groundness
I'm a soul bird
Wings unclipped
Flying
Where my song in the dead of night can be heard
