Chapter Seven

A Chapter by Jess: ~The Sidekick~

One thing registered in Sara’s frantic state, Where is Melanie?  Melanie wasn’t sleeping like she was fifteen minutes ago when she’d slipped into the shower.  She wasn’t even in the bedroom.  Sprinting down the hall, she checked the rooms as she passed.  She was not bothering to be cautious this time.  Nothing.  Melanie wasn’t here.  Sara’s mind raced, Was Josh here while I was in the shower?  Did she try to get him to leave me alone?  What would he do to her?  Plenty of questions, no answers.  She was in a state of panic going back to the room to get some kind of clothes on, she needed to go find Mel.

In the bedroom, she was quickly pulling on some grey gym shorts and a white beater, f**k real clothes, I’ve got to go, and then, she heard something outside.  Mel’s voice… and someone else, a man.  Josh?  F**k.  Sara ran out of the room, down the hall, opened the front door.

            “Mel!” she kept running.

“Sara?”  Mel was standing with Jared.  Mel looked at the both of them in a fashion that would make you think she was watching a ping-pong match, if you didn’t know any better.  She looked at Jared, up, down, up, down, up, yep, it was Jared.

“What in the holy hell are you doing here?” she was panting it out.

“Well hello to you too boss.  What a smartass, she thought.

“Sara, what’s wrong, you look like a piece of freakin’ paper.  What didn’t you tell me?”  Mel spoke softly, as though she wasn’t as interrogative as a cop was.

            “Nothing, I’m paranoid, everything’s fine.”

LIAR!  She was yelling at herself, in her head, wonderful.  Next she’d start arguing with herself over what color coffee cups to buy.

“Uh, well then, Sara, VooDoo Blue is at the club.  You coming to help me with setting up their equipment, or just stand there dumbfounded?”

“You’re an a*s.  I need to get dressed, that’s blatant to see.”

“Well hurry it up then, s**t, next time you two fondle each other, be a little more timely about it, eh?  Oh, and of course, take pictures.  Or at least wait until I’m present.”  He smirked and winked.

            “You wish.”  This from Mel.

Sara, on the other hand, turned and went inside, back to where she came from, the bedroom.  Quickly selecting her clothes, she slipped into a pair of tight, pinstripe pants, boot-cut, how she liked them.  Black Bra, purple monkey socks with a monkey’s head on the heel and the arch said “Gone Bananas”, a deep blue velvet corset, and slipped into her DVS Splash shoes this time.  They were blue.  They went better with the corset.

Getting dressed, grabbing her mousse, walking back out the door, grabbing her keys, and locking up the house, took all of three minutes, she could get dressed quickly if need be, but Jared was still bitchy.  “Took ya long enough, they’re waiting.”

“Stop bitching, get in your truck, go back to Moonlight, I’ll see you there.”  She motioned for Mel to get in the passenger side of her car and made her way to the driver’s side.  Jared was already at the end of the driveway, but it didn’t matter, by the time they got going she’d be at the club before he would.  She popped the emergency brake, put the car into reverse, and was out of the drive in under a minute.

“You know, it wouldn’t surprise me if you got into an accident?” skeptical Mel.

“Ya know, until I do, we can wait and see.  Afterward, I’ll just say s**t happens.”  She glanced over for a split second.  Mel laughed and turned on the stereo, Godsmack was playing, and she turned it up.  While she was singing along with Sully Erna, Sara caught up with Jared, and safely passed him.  She’d be arriving in less than ten minutes.
